During our first conversation, I will explain the process in detail.
The first thing to look at is whether I have and sessions available which fit into parents’ schedules. Once we have agreed a suitable day and time, that particular session will be block booked and reserved for you from that point. There is no obligation to proceed at this point! We will then arrange for our initial consultation – essentially an information sharing discussion, and so that both the parents and the student can satisfy themselves that they are happy to proceed. It is very important to have student buy-in, and so an immediate decision may not be a good idea – whilst many parents are happy to give the go-ahead, some prefer to discuss this in a more relaxed home environment.
The initial consultation usually lasts about half an hour; please try to bring along as much information as you can, such as: recent reports, RAG topic lists from each subject, exercise books, revision guides, and if possible, the exam boards, whether Higher or Foundation, and the codes for the specification/curriculum. Don’t worry if you can’t get this all at once! This is also an opportunity to ask any questions you may have.
Once everything is agreed, the student will start the first one-hour payable session, and will attend every week at the same time on the same day, during term time.
We are as flexible as you like during school holidays, and can accommodate cancellations (provided notice is given!), additional sessions in either evenings or daytime (not English), extended daytime sessions up to 2 hours long, and ad-hoc sessions for regular and one-off students. These can usually be arranged at relatively short notice, though it can become harder as we approach GCSE time.
Payment must be made in advance or on the day of the tutoring session. Payment may be made in cash, cheque, or bank transfer. We prefer cash or cheque, in order to keep administration as simple as possible.
We ask that cancellations are made at least two full days before the tutoring session. Any cancellation made after this period will be charged at the full rate.
